I have asked that the Russian Ambassador to Belgium be summoned today. Russia’s announcement calling on diplomatic personnel and foreign citizens to leave Kyiv ahead of planned strikes is unacceptable. Threatening embassies is not diplomacy, it is intimidation. And it is a flagrant violation of international law and the Vienna Convention. Belgium is not going anywhere. We are staying in Kyiv. We are standing with Ukraine. And we will not be intimidated. There is one aggressor in this war, and it is Russia. Luitenant-Generaal Vincent Descheemaeker gaat op rust na een lange carrière in onze krijgsmacht. Een paracommando zonder kapsones met tonnen ervaring in buitenlandse operaties. Hij is de enige officier die als bataljonscommandant ooit 1 Para én 3 Para leidde. Een man van het terrein, die altijd graag gezien was en is als baas. This is outrageous.. Not a single person on my flight is masked up while we’re in the middle of a double pandemic (Covid + Hantavirus). Het misdadige winteroffensief op energie-infrastructuur heeft het trotse Oekraïense volk niet doen plooien, zelfs niet bij -30 graden Celsius. Oekraïne wint terrein en duwt waar het pijn doet, op de inkomstenzijde met dronestrikes op olie- en gasvelden en havens. Poetin geraakt geïsoleerd. Voor het eerst sinds lang klinkt er gemor in Moskou en Sint-Petersburg. Zelensky wordt intussen met open armen ontvangen en exporteert met de glimlach militaire kennis en technologie. Het contrast is markant. 🇦🇲 De Europese vergadering in Yerevan was een succes. Armenië - een aloude vriend van Rusland - keert de rug naar Moskou en opent de armen voor Brussel. 🇮🇷 Het Iraanse regime staat alleen, zowel internationaal met de afgehakte shia terreurarmen van Hezbollah, Hamas. Islamic Jihad, Houthi’s, Hash-al-Shabi etc, als regionaal door de Golfregio tegen zich op te zetten na de massale Iraanse oorlogschendingen tegen de buurlanden. Het akkoord tussen Libanon en Israël is historisch en hopelijk het begin van regionale vrede. 🇵🇸 Hamas en Islamic Jihad zitten fors in het defensief. Al blijft de situatie in Gaza precair en maken de kolonisten het er op de Westbank niet beter op. Benieuwd wat de verkiezingen voor de Knesset opleveren. 🇸🇪 🇫🇮 Zweden en Finland zijn intussen lid geworden van de NAVO. Twee welvarende landen met krachtige legers en defensie-industrie. 🇹🇷 🇯🇵 🇦🇺 🇰🇷 Turkije zoekt terug meer toenadering tot het Westen. Ook Japan, Australië en Zuid-Korea springen op de kar. Als je doorheen the fog of war kijkt, is het Westen aan de winnende hand. Ons grootste risico is interne verdeeldheid. Daarom mijn inzet om te blijven overleggen. United we stand, divided we fall.
