Congress Party has always stood firmly for women’s reservation. It was Shri Rajiv Gandhi’s vision that brought lakhs of women into grassroots leadership through Panchayati Raj. Instead of acknowledging this legacy and building consensus, PM Narendra Modi chose to mislead the country by suggesting the opposition is against women’s reservation when in fact, there is broad support. No one opposes the bill. The real concern is pushing delimitation under its cover. Were all states and their stakeholders even consulted? From Indira Gandhi to Pratibha Patil and Meira Kumar, Congress Party has consistently empowered women in leadership. While BJP-RSS are yet to have a woman as their national president.
