BOKSBURG MAGISTRATES SAYS HE RECIEVED A CALL FROM A MEMBER OF THE "MADLANGA TASK TEAM" DEVELOPING: The Magistrate Emmanuel Sethibe Magampa, presiding over the bail hearing of suspended Deputy EMPD Julius Mkhwanazi and Kagiso Lerutla, says he got a call yesterday from a member of the "Madlanga Task Team" named Sergeant Sibisi. The magistrate says the member asked if Magampa presided over the 2019 scheme involving an alleged R400,000 payment to hire a fake person to appear in court for a speeding case. The magistrate said he couldn't recollect or recall what had happened previously. Magampa, who's been in the criminal justice system for over 37 years, directed Sibisi to check records at the court and also communicate with the prosecutors in order to get answers. Magampa further said he told Sibisi he'd place it on record during today's bail hearing. Sibisi allegedly said it was not necessary. The magistrate said it was ethically necessary and proceeded to place that on record during day three of the bail hearing. The defense said this was extremely concerning, while the State Prosecutor said they'd look into the matter. The magistrate said he'd decide "what step to take next" during his free time, citing that it's the nature of the game and he wasn't deterred. NB: This Task Team was established by SAPS, not the Madlanga Commission, despite the Magistrates' reference to the member as being from the "Madlanga Task Team." @eNCA @Abramjee

Happening Today] Embattled EMPD deputy chief #JuliusMkhwanazi and Ekurhuleni city manager #KagisoLerutla are set to appear in the #Boksburg magistrate’s court to seek bail. The pair were arrested over the weekend and face charges of corruption, fraud, and defeating the ends of justice. The case relates to an alleged 2019 scheme in which R400,000 (to Mkhwanazi and Lerutla’s alleged impersonator) was reportedly paid to secure a stand-in to appear in court for a speeding charge on Lerutla’s behalf. @Sowetan1981

If someone steals R75 million from the state, does the SIU only expect repayment of that exact amount? Because realistically, that money can generate multiple income streams, open doors to new deals, and create even more wealth over time. It doesn’t add up to me, accountability should go beyond just paying back the original amount; it should include recovering every cent gained from it.
