Milestone - Helping Chemists has achieved ACT Ecolabel 2.0 Certification across a range of microwave digestion and mercury analysis systems, providing laboratories with third-party verified environmental performance data to support more informed purchasing decisions. Certified products include the ETHOS, ETHOS LEAN, ultraWAVE, DMA-80 evo, and UltraWAVE 3 platforms. The ACT Ecolabels disclose verified sustainability metrics including energy consumption, recyclable material content, supported product lifetime, and facility practices. Several certified Milestone systems report up to 90% recyclable materials, supported product lifetimes of 10 years, and renewable electricity use at select manufacturing facilities. Product electricity consumption data is also transparently disclosed across the portfolio, ranging from approximately 3.3 kWh/day to 7.7 kWh/day depending on the instrument configuration. Multiple products also include verified circularity support through Milestone refurbishing programs. By publishing standardized, third-party verified environmental performance data through the ACT Ecolabel database, Milestone is helping labs and procurement teams evaluate product sustainability attributes alongside scientific performance requirements. AI is changing how science gets done. But it’s also changing where the impact happens. Prediction: within the next decade, data centers could become one of the largest sources of environmental impact in the life science industry. As drug discovery becomes more computational, the work once done at the bench is increasingly happening in hyperscale data centers—running continuously to analyze datasets, model interactions, and accelerate breakthroughs. In many ways, these facilities are becoming the new factories of life science. They already account for ~4–4.4% of U.S. electricity use. With AI scaling rapidly, that number could climb to as much as 6.7–12% by the late 2020s. The shift is already underway. Greiner Bio-One International Expands My Green Lab ACT Ecolabel Certifications @GreinerBioOneIT has certified more products with the My Green Lab ACT Ecolabel. After being the first producer to publish the ACT Ecolabels for serological pipettes, Greiner Bio-One has now extended this certification to over 100 additional products in the following groups: -Cell culture microplates (96-, 384-, and 1536-well) -Microplates for biochemical assays (PS; 96- and 384-well) -Storage plates and polypropylene (PP) plates (MASTERBLOCK® plates and PP plates, 96- and 384-well) -ThinCert® HTS inserts -Cryo.s cryogenic tubes (1, 2, 4, and 5 ml) The main highlight among the newly certified products is the ThinCert® HTS inserts, which achieved gold status with 62 points. When looking at the outer packaging, the amount of recycled material is 90%. Additionally, the Greiner Bio-One production site demonstrates excellent renewable energy use. The factory in Frickenhausen, Germany, operates on 100% renewable energy and features its own solar panels. The company has also added a publicly announced Near-Term Target Commitment, aligned with SBTi an EcoVadis Platinum rating and a CDP Climate score of B in recent years.
