I’ve been using the Google Fitbit for the last four days. I know that’s way too early to properly review a product, and I’m definitely not a product reviewer, so this is just my initial experience. I actually don’t enjoy tracking every little activity. In fact, I avoid smartwatches with a display because constantly looking at numbers makes me anxious. That’s why I picked the Fitbit. It’s minimal, budget friendly, doesn’t have a big dial, and I only wanted something that would tell me at the end of the day whether I’d hit my basic goals like steps and activity. My iPhone tracks steps too, but I often leave my phone behind when I go for walks. It was also one of the cheapest options, so I thought I’d give it a shot. So far, though, the experience hasn’t been great. The app is painfully slow to sync, and it hangs quite a bit. Yesterday, after my run, I tried saving the activity, but it kept failing. I had to retry three or four times before it finally saved. It’s frustrating, especially when you’ve just finished a workout and want to see your stats. Sleep tracking has been the biggest disappointment. I slept for around five odd hours last night, but because I woke up briefly around 6.30 a.m. and then went back to sleep around 7:30, it only recorded that last stretch from about 7.30 to 8.40 a.m. It completely missed the earlier sleep. I also have a feeling the step count isn’t the most accurate, although I can’t say that for sure. Based on my experience so far, I probably wouldn’t recommend it.
