Nearly 40% of Alberta’s manufacturing output comes from the Edmonton region, and that strength depends on people with the skills to move ideas into industry. This story from @CityofEdmonton highlights innovation spanning advanced energy systems and quantum technology, with NAIT alumni Darryl Short (Mechanical Engineering Technology '05 and Machinist '02) and Ryan Jodoin (Instrumentation & Control Tech '20 and Electrician '14) contributing across sectors, helping shape Alberta’s industrial future. This is the kind of talent Alberta needs more of, and exactly the kind of workforce we are proud to help build. Read the full story to see how these incredible NAIT alumni are shaping Alberta’s industrial future ⬇️ nait.li/4sC8YEi

We’re excited to announce a significant milestone for NAIT with the Alberta Budget 2026 providing the funding needed to begin construction of the Advanced Skills Centre (ASC). As we move into this new phase, we are pleased to welcome @_TimCartmell as Associate Vice President, Major Capital Projects. Tim brings a wealth of experience from his roles in municipal and provincial government, including eight years as an Edmonton city councillor and his work with the Government of Alberta’s Treasury Board. His background in engineering and capital project leadership will be invaluable as we deliver the ASC and align our capital planning with NAIT’s long-term vision. Please join us in welcoming Tim to NAIT. #NAIT #Leadership #AdvancedSkillsCentre #BuildingSkills #BuildingAlberta

We are incredibly grateful to the @YourAlberta for its continued support in Budget 2026. As Alberta’s largest provider of trades training, NAIT plays a vital role in preparing the province’s skilled workforce. The province’s investment in the Advanced Skills Centre will further expand NAIT’s training capacity, allowing us to prepare 5,500 more Albertans for rewarding, in‑demand careers in the trades. For students, this means more access to hands‑on, industry‑aligned training that supports their long‑term success. For employers, it strengthens the pipeline of skilled talent. And for Alberta, it helps build a workforce ready to meet the province’s growing need for essential skilled trades professionals. We look forward to advancing this project in collaboration with government, industry partners, and the NAIT community. When Enoch Cree Nation approached NAIT with an idea for new community spaces - a gazebo, picnic tables and a healing garden - it created an opportunity for students to learn, build and give back. “These are probably the largest custom projects we have ever done,” says Chase Gallagher, a community engagement specialist with NAIT Indigenous Partnerships and Engagement. NAIT staff interviewed 50 to 60 applicants from Enoch and developed a customized curriculum to support the work. Joanne Sharphead, manager of training and development at Enoch, had envisioned these structures for years as teaching, celebration and gathering spaces. They were inspired by a previous collaboration between Enoch and NAIT that saw students develop skills by building tiny homes for local residents. Kalus Papin, who worked on the tables and gazebo, shared how meaningful it felt to contribute to the community. “They have really helped me a lot, from a kid to adulthood. This is just a small part of me returning the favour.” Papin will soon qualify for his first apprenticeship theory exam and hopes to extend his skill set to include framing, home building and eventually a Red Seal designation. Fun fact: @NAIT is actually the oldest school I've attended, opening in 1964. I find the history and archives fascinating, and think every school should have some sort of archive, whether it be campus newspapers or radio broadcasts. Do you?
