My final paper for my undergrad, it's on the split in SDS and the 1969 convention. I'm still getting line edits on it and working on smaller copy editing stuff but this version is something I'm still proud of. docs.google.com/document/d/1sd…

@Luther__ML @deephousegibbon Can you link where? Old documents naturally contain some old politics. We see the role people say is played by labor aristocrats being principally played by the business unionist labor bureaucrats, not high paid workers who we think can be won to revolution.

Genuinely not trying to dog pile you, but doesn't this split with your own organizations line?

@Gherk295083 Labor aristocracy isn't real, it's largely a bandaid theory for the misanalysis of petit-bourgeois sections of labor as proletarian

@Luther__ML that screenshot is from a doc from 2004– you will notice that term doesn’t appear anywhere in our political program which is the most up to date reflection of our line relevant section here: frso.org/main-documents…

The point of thinking about classes is that they are large groups of people that (can) constitute themselves politically. Marxists look at intellectuals based on the particular role they occupy within society and how they have tended to act relative to the class struggle

@DeliaCore @SwampCommunist How? You said it isn't a good strategy and that cadre get less radical after they go into industry to do labor work? If my ommission of the term salting is the issue I apologize, not my intent. Trying to say that's not my experience and that we have a lot contrary in our paper

The question is not about your individual moral choices, its about where the power of our class is. That our strategic power is in larger profit-oriented industries like logistics (not on campus) is common sense Like where do we need redsmore urgently, UC berkley or the unions?
📕@SwampCommunist

We dont need more or better Marxist professors we need a Marxist organized proletariat. Drop out of college and go move boxes for UPS or come lash shipping containers at the port

@DeliaCore @SwampCommunist People get very pearl clutchy about it online but this is standard practice across a lot of ML groups globally and even historically in the US.

@DeliaCore @SwampCommunist I'm another member of FRSO, I work at UPS and have since I left school. It's not required that everyone get that specific job, but comrades in labor focus on specific unions. We do also try to have cadre return to the working class, but that doesn't have to mean factory work lol

@TambovGlasser @SwampCommunist Did they not see the struggle of the workers as central? Did they not view fusion, uniting the workers movement and the movement for socialism as a vital task? How are you going to win people to socialism without actually living with and working with them?

The point of class analysis is not to judge individuals, but to understand the general revolutionary potential of large groups of people. Some petty bourgeois will take up revolution. But our broad strategy should focus on the working class. frso.org/main-documents…

Btw tbc the LRS rocked in many ways, just had fundamental limits because it dermphasized class composition and it's labor work. Watsonville and Postal organizing being some very good exceptions.

The importance of a working class base is critical as is the need to oppose liquidationism which seems to make the party totally clandestine or reformist and palatable. Mass work is great but open red work and the collective study of the communist organization is crucial as well.

marxists.org/history/erol/n… Was reading this summation by non FRSO former LRS cadre and found many interesting similarities and key differences. I feel like some of the lessons this summation carries are also evident in our (and yes I'm biased) correct practice and line

Join the organization with a real strategy for revolution: frso.org/join "Our basic strategy for revolution and socialism is building a united front against the monopoly capitalist class, under the leadership of the working class and its political party, with a strategic alliance between the multinational working class and the oppressed nationalities at the core of this united front."
