To all those Nenshi followers who buy your tinfoil in bulk, here are the facts around your latest conspiracy theory about the now infamous cat sculpture. 1. The cat sculpture is worth a few hundred dollars and is made of copper - not gold. 2. It was gifted to the People of Alberta by the Energy Minister of Saudi Arabia who was attending the World Petroleum Conference in Calgary in 2023. 3. It was not a personal gift to the Premier and is being displayed at the McDougall Centre Premier’s Office out of respect for a country we are developing an important and growing trading relationship with. 4. As Nenshi doesn’t understand, because he never has nor will he ever be Premier, the exchange of gifts with foreign dignitaries is a regular part of international diplomacy as a gesture of friendship, economic partnership and peaceful relations. Nenshi’s disrespect for foreign trading partners is yet more proof of his complete unfitness to lead…and I want to express my unwavering support for his continued leadership of the Alberta NDP.

This major agreement with Ottawa is another step forward and affirms what we already knew; Alberta should be leading provincial project approvals, not Ottawa. Alberta will see projects approved faster, and shovels in the ground sooner, but there’s still more work to do.

For most of my professional life, Alberta has needed a new pipeline to the west coast. Really all coasts. But the most important path forward is the pipeline that can be built to Canada’s northwest coast. With the signing of this agreement with the federal government, I have never been more optimistic that a pipeline will get built. This pipeline is a game changer for those in my constituency of Fort McMurray-Lac la Biche and everyone else in Alberta. It can fund our growing society, build schools, hospitals, roads and other projects and infrastructure. This pipeline has the potential to be truly nation building, creating thousands of jobs and tens of billions of dollars in private investment across Canada. But we know there is much work to do to get this project across the approval finish line. Key to all of this is partnering with First Nations. Projects like Woodfibre LNG and Cedar LNG have given us a framework on ensuring proper consultation is done. This pipeline will also be built by private industry. We will not be sticking taxpayers with a $34 billion tab like what happened with Trans Mountain. TMX proved the demand for our responsibly produced oil, but it should have been paid for by industry. I look forward to continue working with First Nations, with industry, with Ottawa, and with my fellow ministers. Today is a great day to be an Albertan.
