A special congrats to @NDSUPlantPath graduate student, Abbeah Mae Navasca along with Dr. Thomas Baldwin, for being awarded $20,000 for the project, "Cross-infectivity, Genomic Analysis, and Transcriptomic Profiling of Fusarium graminearum in Artificial Barley-Broadleaf Crop Rotation." "The direct outcomes of this project will improve crop rotation strategies through a deeper understanding of these biological mechanisms. We expect that farmers will consider changing their crop rotation sequence relative to the results of our study," said Mae Navasca. This grant was awarded as part of NCR-SARE's 2024 Graduate Student Grant Program, a competitive grant program to fund graduate student projects that address sustainable agriculture issues. Sudden Death Syndrome of #Soybeans (SDS) was first confirmed in the state in 2018 in Richland County and may be continuing to spread across North Dakota. SDS causes root rotting and produces a plant toxin that moves up from the root tissue into the rest of the plant. 🌱 Wade Webster, @NDSUExtension Soybean Pathology Specialist, recently discussed how to identify SDS in #soybeans for producers to begin scouting their fields. To learn more about SDS in #soybeans, visit bit.ly/NDSDS
