Alum Dr. Carly Joseph NDP’13 returned to the commencement stage at Central Michigan University’s Covenant Healthcare College of Medicine on Friday with a message grounded in service, presence and compassion. Now completing her residency in internal medicine and geriatrics, Carly is preparing to serve as a rural primary care physician in Colorado. In her commencement address, she challenged new physicians to ask a simple but powerful question: What matters most to this patient? Her work caring for rural patients, older adults and others facing barriers to care reflects the mission she began living at Notre Dame Prep — using knowledge, leadership and compassion in service to others. As a student, Carly’s academic and global experiences reflected curiosity, discipline and a commitment to community. Today, those same values continue to shape her work providing healthcare to underserved populations. Another example of an NDP alum carrying the school’s mission well beyond graduation. “The audition is over. You are exactly who your patients need,” she told the CMU graduates.
