The NEC Commission brings the states, commuter agencies, Amtrak, and USDOT together to modernize and improve the Northeast Corridor rail system.

FRA Administrator Fink had the opportunity to travel along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) to view the Connecticut River Bridge Replacement Project. At 116 years old, the current bridge is a major bottleneck risk to the reliability of the NEC. Replacing this aging rail infrastructure will improve safety, increase speeds, and ensure the future of NEC rail for all operators and passengers.

FRA Administrator David Fink recently toured the new Frederick Douglass Tunnel in Maryland. Once completed, it will replace the Baltimore & Potomac Tunnel and allow for electrified Amtrak services at speeds up to 100 MPH.
