Francis Fukuyama on the U.S. as a declining power: American decline is a direct product of Trump's rise since 2016. It is as if Trump had decided to do everything in his power to weaken the United States vis-à-vis China. He has polarized an already polarized country, cut funding for basic scientific research, and attacked American universities which are the best in the world. He and his colleagues have openly stated that their domestic opponents — the Democrats — are a far greater threat to the future of the United States than either China or Russia. There is agreement among America's friends and rivals that the United States has become something of a rogue state that is contributing to global instability and disorder — as well as something of a laughingstock.

What do we really know now per the White House or Reuters? Here’s where we were in truth: These are the facts. Don’t gloss over them. The JCPOA worked 2016, 2017, and would have, let’s say, to 2024. Then in 2025, ⏰ last year, restrictions on enrichment began lifting each year to 2030, 4+ years from now. The sunset clauses ensured Iran could enrich and stockpile enough for weapons grade nuclear ☢️ weapons while entirely in compliance with the deal’s terms. It’s 2028, tic, then 2029, toc, ⏰ what do you do? No leverage. They’re in compliance. Leverage further declining. You try to make a different move to deter it despite the JCPOA in 2028, let’s say, but they’ve had restrictions slowly lifting since 2025, they’re closer and closer. So they breakout bigger and faster in 2028? Thats what they did in 2018. Then what? The original deal’s design baked in nuclear ☢️ weapons. Check my facts. Check the actual text of the agreement. 🍎 Breakdown the years of deteriorating leverage. Then compare whatever the White House says upcoming. 🍎 Oh. I miss you. lol. ♥️

If President Trump actually agrees to the deal being discussed it would be worse than the JCPOA for the region and the world and will likely define his legacy as that of weakness and failure.
