A man in Seattle narrowly avoided being pushed under an approaching light rail train.
The suspect, identified as Elisio Melendez, reportedly has a long history of mental illness, including schizophrenia, and has repeatedly been deemed unfit to stand trial, resulting in years of cycling in and out of psychiatric care.
In 2018, he assaulted a woman inside a church, leaving her injured, and in 2019 was arrested in connection with a stabbing involving his sister—but charges in both cases were ultimately dropped after he was found incompetent to stand trial.
