My National duals takeaways: My only negative thought is that there was no reason to wait until 6 PM to start the finals; it should have started at 3 PM while everyone was in the arena. However, I understand it was due to TV scheduling, specifically ESPN2. FAB FIVE FRESHMEN: Rameriz, Vega, Robideau, and Lockett led the Cowboys all weekend, while Seth Mendoza made an impressive move by bumping up two weight classes for the Tigers. DOTTING THE I: Ohio State would have given the Nittany Lions a challenging matchup this weekend, as they were on a different level than everyone else. I’m not saying they will beat them in tournament scoring, but in a dual meet, it would have been much closer than we initially anticipated before this weekend. Kudos to the Buckeyes. Ben Davino, the silent assassin, will step in as the next best Buckeye, following in Jessie Mendez's footsteps. Speaking of Mendez calling him for Hodge now!!! Tom Brands remains the most despised coach by a wide margin. However, he did win the challenge brick shot put this weekend, tossing the brick 27 feet. The 184-pound weight class is going to be exciting to watch throughout the year, and I’m calling it the new 125-pound weight class when it comes to rankings. McEnelly, Ferrari, Welsh, Sinclair, and Fishback. Additionally, it will be interesting to see if Zach Ryder can re-establish himself as a contender.
