Week 7 of my AI Engineering Fellowship - Gradient Optimization 📚
After spending last week understanding LLMs, this week focused on what happens during training, how a model gradually improves from making poor predictions to producing accurate ones.🚀
We spent time unpacking concepts like gradients, loss functions, gradient gescent, and implementing optimization in PyTorch.
We also explored regularization and model behaviour, looking at multicollinearity, L1 and L2 regularization, and why overfitting happens. It reinforced that building good models isn't about making them more complex, it's about finding the right balance between learning patterns and avoiding noise.✨
I'll admit... the maths this week definitely stretched my brain 🤣, but every session makes me appreciate a little more why modern AI works the way it does!!

This morning, I overheard my neighbor’s children talking about their uniforms and how their mum has refused to listen to them.
The girl’s outfit was noticeably oversized, and while they were discussing it, she quietly told her brother, “At least I make people laugh, even if no one wants to be my friend.”
It made me wonder, don’t experiences like these affect a child’s self-esteem in ways we often overlook?
