Johnstone Burgh FC U20 4-2 Kilsyth Athletic FC U20
Johnstone Burgh U20s stormed to victory in the Final of the WoSFDL League Cup Final on a crisp sunny afternoon at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld.
The Burgh started fast and took the lead in the 9th minute through Jude Cummins, who leapt highest to head home from 6 yards from a fine Steven Kerr cross after his initial shot was saved.
With the Johnstone side seemingly well on top, Kilsyth Athletic would level the match in the 19th minute through Mark White, who done well to beat the offside trap to fire home from 10 yards. Just 60 seconds later Kilsyth Athletic would take the lead through Robbie Morton who produced some great skill then a superb finish from 12 yards to leave the Burgh reeling.
With Kilsyth Athletic looking the more confident team, the Burgh would level the match in the 33rd minute through Steven Kerr, who produced a lovely piece of skill in the box before firing the ball past Kilsyth goalkeeper, Thomas Cairns, from 8 yards into the bottom left hand corner.
In the 35th minute, the Burgh looked certain to regain the lead through Steven Kerr, who rounded Kilsyth goalkeeper Cairns but could only find the side netting from a tight angle.
The final 10 minutes of the first half played out without any major chances created and the teams would go into the break level at 2-2.
The Burgh started the 2nd half well, as Steven Kerr's free kick from 18 yards was saved by Cairns in the 50th minute. Just 2 minutes later the Burgh came even closer but Cairns made a fine save from a long range effort.
At this stage of the match, it was one way traffic and it was Kilsyth goalkeeper Cairns who would deny the Johnstone side their 3rd goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute, as he saved a well struck shot from Kerr from 12 yards out.
It seemed only a matter of time before the young Burgh side would take the lead, but it was the crossbar that would deny them this time as the ball rattled off the bar following a fantastic 25 yard strike in the 67th minute.
In the 71st minute, the pressure finally paid off for the Burgh as Steven Kerr nodded home a free kick from 4 yards to secure a 3-2 lead, much to the delight of the healthy Burgh travelling support.
Just 5 minutes later the Burgh would score their 4th goal of the afternoon, as Preston MacIntyre produced a lovely glancing header past Cairns from 4 yards out to all but seal the League Cup for the Johnstone side.
As the match entered injury time, Man Of The Match Steven Kerr had 2 good chances to seal his hat trick and Johnstone Burgh's 5th goal of the afternoon, but the impressive Cairns would deny him on both occasions.
The final whistle would blow in the 93rd minute to confirm that Johnstone Burgh U20s would be the winners of the 2025 WoSFDL League Cup, with a very convincing 4-2 victory over a determined Kilsyth Athletic U20s side.
A fantastic achievement for the young Burgh side who bring yet another cup back to Johnstone.
