The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), through its Gender Department, has concluded the Inaugural NGF Gender Knowledge Exchange Convention in Lagos. The convention brought together Commissioners of Women Affairs, gender experts, and key stakeholders from across Nigeria's 36 states to discuss strategies for strengthening collaboration on gender equality and women's economic empowerment. The gathering served as a platform for peer learning, experience sharing, and policy dialogue, covering critical areas including policy domestication, gender-responsive budgeting, institutional strengthening, and pathways to advancing women's participation in governance and economic development at the subnational level.

Yesterday, the Director-General of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, led a high-level delegation to the Kaduna State Governor's Lodge for a strategic engagement with Governor Uba Sani (@ubasanius) on the rollout of the State Agribusiness Investment Programme (SAIP) facilitated by the Rice HelpDesk in Kaduna State. The visit focused on securing the Governor’s endorsement and strengthening state-level commitment to agricultural transformation. Following the engagement, the Governor formally endorsed the initiative and pledged to establish and personally chair the State’s Rice Development Council. This commitment marks a significant step toward accelerating rice sector development, attracting agribusiness investments, and strengthening food security in Kaduna State. #SAIP #NigeriaGovernorsForum

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat was hosted in a strategic engagement by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development (@Solid_Min_Dev) chaired by the Minister, Dr. Henry Alake (@AlakeDele) (Rep. Perm. Secretary, Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo), to strengthen collaboration and improve policy coordination at the subnational level. Discussions focused on institutional frameworks for implementation, stakeholder engagement, and the role of the Joint Technical Committee and Communities of Practice in driving seamless collaboration between the Ministry and state governments through the NGF platform. The meeting further reinforced the importance of partnerships in advancing sustainable development and effective policy delivery across Nigeria.

Today, I join the rest of the world to celebrate the dignity of labour as we mark the International Workers' Day 2026. I appreciate the incredible contributions of our workers across all sectors in Kwara State. Our administration values the critical roles workers play in the socioeconomic development of our state. This is reflected in our timely payment of salaries, provision of conducive working environment, and swift implementation of any welfare-oriented national policy for the workforce. We have approved the 30% peculiar allowance for core civil servants in our state. In the spirit of fairness, our administration also approved upward review of Teacher’s Specific Allowance (TSA) for teachers, and different allowances for other professionals. In the last six years, we have cleared backlogs of salaries, allowances, pensions, while steadily clearing huge gratuities that we inherited along with the ones under us. We will continue to constructively engage labour leaders on areas of improvement. I specially commend our gallant and courageous personnel who work round the clock to protect our people and keep our state safe and peaceful. I reaffirm our administration’s commitment to building a Kwara where workers thrive, where decent jobs are created, where careers are continually nurtured, and where every sector is empowered to contribute meaningfully to state’s prosperity. Today, as we mark the 2026 Workers’ Day, I joined our hardworking civil servants at the Peace Park in Yenagoa to celebrate their resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions to the growth of our dear state. In recognition of their commitment, I have directed the Head of Service to immediately commence the allocation of the completed 108 housing units in Okaka to our civil servants. This is a deliberate step to improve their welfare and ensure they have access to decent and comfortable accommodation. I have also approved the implementation of all annual step increments going forward. Let me reassure our workers that the payment of promotion arrears and outstanding increments is ongoing and will continue until every kobo owed is fully settled. Your sacrifices will never go unnoticed. As part of our continued efforts to ease transportation challenges, we will be adding more modern buses to the existing fleet to serve our workforce better. I must also extend my sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent inauguration of key legacy projects in Bayelsa. These projects, particularly the installation of gas turbines, will soon come to life as we move to power our state and boost development across all sectors. To our workers, I say thank you. Earlier today, I had the honour of joining our dedicated workers at the Muhammadu Sunusi Bello Durbar Ground, Dutse to celebrate Workers’ Day 2026.. It was a moment of appreciation and honest reflection. Your resilience, dedication, and daily commitment continue to drive the progress and prosperity of our dear state. Thank you for all that you do. We marked this year’s celebration under the theme “Insecurity and Poverty as the Bane of Decent Work.” These are real challenges affecting our people, and we remain focused on tackling them head-on through our 12-point development agenda — with agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social protection as top priorities. In the past three years, we have recruited over 5,000 workers into the civil service and engaged more than 6,000 others through various employment programmes. We have implemented the new ₦70,000 minimum wage, stabilised the contributory pension scheme, ensured regular payment of salaries and pensions, and continued with promotions, training, and welfare packages. We are also supporting our workers through agricultural loans, housing initiatives, and improved healthcare services. To every worker in Jigawa: I want you to know that your welfare remains a top priority for this administration. We value our partnership with organised labour and we will continue to engage in dialogue to make things better. Together, let us keep building a more secure, prosperous, and inclusive Jigawa State. Today, I had the honour of standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of dedicated men and women at the 2026 May Day celebration in Kaduna; an event thoughtfully convened by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to recognise the enduring contributions of workers to the growth and vitality of our state. That this marks the third consecutive peaceful Workers’ Day in Kaduna is not incidental; it is a quiet but powerful testament to a renewed climate of trust, stability, and constructive engagement between government and organised labour. I was particularly heartened by the thoughtful commendations from labour leaders, who acknowledged our administration’s sustained commitment to workers’ welfare and people-centred governance. Their recognition of our interventions across critical sectors affirms the direction we have chosen. From the upgrading of 255 Primary Healthcare Centres and the reconstruction of general hospitals, to the recruitment of 10,000 teachers and 1,800 health workers, we have sought to strengthen both service delivery and human capital. Equally significant is the disbursement of ₦17.796 billion in pensions, gratuities, and death benefits; an obligation we consider not merely financial, but moral. The implementation of CONHESS and CONMESS, alongside our investments in school infrastructure and workforce expansion, reflects a deliberate effort to restore dignity and efficiency across public service. Labour’s commendation of the free CNG Bus Mass Transit initiative is equally encouraging. By easing transportation costs and improving mobility, this intervention has offered practical relief to workers and citizens alike, while reinforcing our broader commitment to inclusive economic support. Their acknowledgement of our progress in restoring peace and strengthening security across previously troubled communities further underscores the interdependence between stability and prosperity. I reminded our workers that my journey has always been rooted in solidarity. As a lifelong advocate for justice and civil rights, I stood with labour in the defining moments of our democratic struggle. That bond endures. This week, we received the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (@FIUNigeria), Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, to the Secretariat. During the visit, Ms. Bakari briefed our team on Nigeria's preparations for its 3rd Round Mutual Evaluation, a process conducted under the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) framework to assess the country's systems for combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing. Key areas of discussion included the regulation of designated non-financial businesses and professions, as well as the registration of legal arrangements both identified as priority areas ahead of the evaluation.
