For people like Mamdani, nothing truly belongs to you. Not your property, not your savings, not even the results of your lifetime of work. It all belongs to the state, and you’re just the temporary manager of it until they decide to take their "share".
The estate tax simply makes the premise explicit. If the government can claim half of what you built the moment you die, then ownership was never really yours to begin with. It was always conditional on political permission.
