Anyone use nonfiction trade books in their middle school science classes? Just discovered Scholastic has young readers editions for some great science related books. Could be a great collaboration with ELA and SS teachers! #STEMeducation @teacher2teacher @ScholasticTeach

Started a blog to share my classroom experiences. Eventually planning to add to this site for consulting type work. For now thought the blog was a good place to start. Check it out. bit.ly/stemIntegratio…

@NGSS_tweeps I am working on a collaborative unit with social studies teacher. Ss have to design a sail boat (engineering, force, motion, etc. ) and then will plan a trip on their boat (geography). Will have to map locations and research them. So many opportunities for 21st century skills.

@NGSS_tweeps @MsPienta Last year we were able to have scheduling so that core teachers had at least one study hall period a week as common planning time. Unfortunately it didn't happen in this year's schedule.
English

@MsPienta How do we make time? That is always a huge deal. If we only got time to sit and talk with our colleagues.

Last week students modeled the inputs, outputs, and processing of a computer with a card sorting activity. Took some groups a bit to get going but once they did it was so much fun. Trying to put this into words when we were done was challenging. #LiveFreeAndCode #csd @codeorg

Ok peeps I need tech suggestions. I was told I have about $1600 available to spend, it has to be on technology. What should be on my wishlist??? #LiveFreeAndCode @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @UNHSTEMTeach @fhsunshine78 @nhklocke

@UNHSTEMTeach @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @fhsunshine78 @nhklocke @TeachCode Thanks for the offer...I had the chance to "play" with Ozobit and Dash at the CSTA conference.

@NHstemteacher @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @fhsunshine78 @nhklocke I second (third?) the adafruit circuit playgrounds - they’re part of the @TeachCode CS Discoveries curriculum anyway. If you’ll like to try Ozobots (the Bit), MakeyMakeys, or the Dash/Dot robots before buying, I can probably get them to you early next week for a loan.

@fhsunshine78 @alfredtwo @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @UNHSTEMTeach @nhklocke @microbit_edu @adafruit Would love to see what you have for resources. I already have a set of microbits but I am hoping to utilize them better this year.
English

@alfredtwo @NHstemteacher @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @UNHSTEMTeach @nhklocke @NHstemteacher We use @microbit_edu with our 7th grade students. I just got a bunch of resources while I was at #APCSP reading. - I will locate and send you the link if you want to go that way. @adafruit has them and you can use that teacher discount code for them
English

@alfredtwo @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @UNHSTEMTeach @fhsunshine78 @nhklocke I teach a bit of everything! K-12 school, I do MS and HS science, MS math, and our new CS program for ME and HS. 😮 ocassianally work with our elementary too so open to suggestion for those levels. Open to any and all suggestions at this point and will narrow the list if needed.
English

@NHstemteacher @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @UNHSTEMTeach @fhsunshine78 @nhklocke SO much depends on what you are teaching. If you want to have students program devices microBits are fun and easy. So are AdaFruit Circuit Playground devices.

First steps in planning for CS discoveries with grade 7/8. Seeing lots of connections I can make to math and science topics. Still have to figure out my high school elective class too. So much planning to do but I'm super excited about it. #LiveFreeAndCode @TeachCode
