Possible books that I am interested in using "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" "Hidden Figures" and "The Dissapearing Spoon". Any other ideas are appreciated.

Anyone use nonfiction trade books in their middle school science classes? Just discovered Scholastic has young readers editions for some great science related books. Could be a great collaboration with ELA and SS teachers! #STEMeducation @teacher2teacher @ScholasticTeach

Started a blog to share my classroom experiences. Eventually planning to add to this site for consulting type work. For now thought the blog was a good place to start. Check it out. bit.ly/stemIntegratio…

@NGSS_tweeps I am working on a collaborative unit with social studies teacher. Ss have to design a sail boat (engineering, force, motion, etc. ) and then will plan a trip on their boat (geography). Will have to map locations and research them. So many opportunities for 21st century skills.

What I find interesting is how the CCC’s and SEP’s naturally flow into other content areas. How can we help take advantage of this?

@NGSS_tweeps @MsPienta Last year we were able to have scheduling so that core teachers had at least one study hall period a week as common planning time. Unfortunately it didn't happen in this year's schedule.

@MsPienta How do we make time? That is always a huge deal. If we only got time to sit and talk with our colleagues.

I really like the idea of taking our phenomena based units and figuring out how we can work across the boundaries of our classes. What are some difficulties in really implementing a true cross curricular approach?

Last week students modeled the inputs, outputs, and processing of a computer with a card sorting activity. Took some groups a bit to get going but once they did it was so much fun. Trying to put this into words when we were done was challenging. #LiveFreeAndCode #csd @codeorg

Ok so my list right now has Circuit playgrounds, a few Ozobots, and some updated sensor equipment for bio and Chem. I use vernier sensors and noticed that have a robot kit....has anyone used the vernier "Codey Rocky" ? The activities with that sounds like a good fit for MS sci.

@NHstemteacher @CSTANH1 @UNHSTEMlab @fhsunshine78 @nhklocke I second (third?) the adafruit circuit playgrounds - they’re part of the @TeachCode CS Discoveries curriculum anyway. If you’ll like to try Ozobots (the Bit), MakeyMakeys, or the Dash/Dot robots before buying, I can probably get them to you early next week for a loan.

First steps in planning for CS discoveries with grade 7/8. Seeing lots of connections I can make to math and science topics. Still have to figure out my high school elective class too. So much planning to do but I'm super excited about it. #LiveFreeAndCode @TeachCode
