@anSea2026 CA employed legalized money laundering schemes to draw-down additional federal money to fund Medi-Cal for illegals. These federal funds aren't like grant monies. Since they are part of the federal match, they become "state dollars." We all paid for this.

California's enrollment-at-any-cost strategy caused Medicaid spending to explode--doubling the national average. Their expansive welfare state includes coverage for the wealthy and illegals at the expense of the truly vulnerable and the federal taxpayer. paragoninstitute.org/paragon-pic/th…

CMS believes there’s about $100 billion in definable fraud, waste, and abuse across our country. If we can remove the fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicare, we will double the life expectancy of the Medicare trust fund.

@HammondOnHealth Policymakers are starting to see that this old, tired doublespeak is counter to the basic economic law of supply and demand. CON laws reduce access and raise prices. It is time to move on from these damaging policies.

CON laws are destructive, anti-competitive policies. They raise the cost of health care (roughly 10%) and reduce access for those who truly need it in the name of galvanizing monopolies. If lawmakers care about affordable healthcare, they must repeal market barriers like CON.
Matthew Mitchell@Matt_d_Mitchell

This is funny. A hospital lobbyist is aghast that people call CONs a "competitor's veto." Then goes on to explain why his hospital system should be able to oppose (one might say veto) new entrants. ‘No such thing as a competitor’s veto’ and other arguments as Kentucky CON debate renews kentuckylantern.com/2026/03/10/no-…

@SarahStoxy @Citizens_Idaho It would still work because they are still doubling their money. For every dollar a hospital puts in, they would get a dollar back from the federal government in a 50/50 scenario. You are right though, changing the match makes it less attractive. This could be a policy option.

Idaho has been doing these money laundering schemes ever since the Idaho Hospital Association engineered them in 2008 (H443). They are sold as a way to get "free" federal money. But we all pay for it in the form of inflation, higher hospital prices, and consolidation.

Great to be on Idaho Signal to talk about Medicaid money laundering and how it negatively impacts our country. Legislators beware: these schemes are sold as a way to help Medicaid and hospitals at no cost, but we all pay for it in the end. The national debt is now $38.56T

@gemstatechron If anyone wonders how this works, these are the federal funds that the state collected for hospitals by legalized money laundering. They deposit the "free" federal funds into the Hospital Assessment fund for use. Paragon created a great video on this: youtu.be/iHKr97EE0uA?si…

Note to state legislators: It is not conservative to pursue Medicaid money laundering schemes to grow federal debt to channel money to powerful hospital systems. And it undermines a key part of the main legislative accomplishment of President Trump and Congress. @Paragon_Inst
