2 June 1953. The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place in Westminster Abbey, London. It was the 1st British coronation to be televised live, with TV cameras allowed inside Westminster Abbey for the first time. It’s viewed as the first major BBC TV live event.

#OnThisDay in 1521, the German priest Martin Luther was declared a “notorious heretic” by the Diet of Worms, an imperial assembly called by Holy Roman emperor Charles V. For not recanting his views, Luther was labelled an outlaw, as were his followers, forcing him into hiding.
