Active Wildland Fires in New Mexico – April 25, 2026 Update 🔥 Two notable fires are currently burning in the state: Tusas Fire (San Miguel County, west of Sapello) • 233 acres, 39% contained • Started April 22 in timber fuels • Handlines largely in place; containment improving • NM 266 closed to non-residents (residents proceed with caution) • No structures damaged Hummingbird Fire (Gila National Forest, Catron County) • 221 acres, 0% contained • Lightning-caused April 20 in remote wilderness • Burning in steep terrain with heavy dead fuel from prior fires • 165 personnel assigned; air support active • No structures threatened Year-to-date: ~436 fires burning over 30,400 acres on state & private lands. Fire danger remains elevated in northern and southwestern NM. Dry conditions + wind = watch for new starts.
