There’s great interest in what really happened at the WTO’s MC14. At Harvard University with faculty and staff discussing this, the state of global trade, and the room for WTO Reforms. Very interesting to debate macroeconomic policy management with Professor @jasonfurman’s Macroeconomics Class (EC10) in Sanders Theatre. This was a class I took 53 years ago in the same venue. Great questions from brilliant students. Among faculty, was happy to be joined by Professors David Laibson, Pol Antràs, Myrto Kalouptsidi, Marc Melitz, Dani Rodrik and Gordon Hanson. thank you for your animating conversation, intellectual strength and wisdom.

Please note this fake use of my name and photo and ignore. My team and lawyers are handling. But in the meantime like other fake postings falsely using my name and image I don’t want anyone to lose their money given that this is on a supposed Punch website and Punch is a popular Nigerian paper. My staff have visited the website and it appears to be fake. So @MobilePunch kindly take action as well. We must fight the fraudsters vigorously!!

The 14th WTO Ministerial Meeting has closed in Yaoundé. We worked hard, we stayed late negotiating until the wee hours of each morning, we got a lot done, including agreement on an important reform package, but couldn’t quite close the deal on the e-commerce Moratorium. We were supposed to close the meeting at 1pm but Members kept working until midnight and then quite rightly decided to adjourn the meeting and take back our Yaoundé package of work to Geneva to complete it there. Members were amazing in their patience and determination. Our Cameroonian hosts were even more amazing. Many thanks to them for their warm hospitality and hard work. We are grateful in particular to H.E. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, to the Interministerial Committee, to MC14 Chair H.E. Minister Luc-Magloire Mbarga Atangana @MbargaAtangana1 and H.E. Amb Salomon Eheth. I want to say how proud I am of the wonderful @wto Secretariat staff who, working beside Cameroon, helped to ensure the success of this meeting. The attendance of over 120 delegations, over 80 Ministers, and 2000 delegates is a testimony to the importance of the Yaoundé meeting. Long live the Yaoundé package! We’ll complete the work!

Two important events on the sidelines of #WTOMC14. A successful launch of the E-Commerce Agreement and a meeting of Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA) participants to encourage more members to join. Both good signs of the way the organization is trying to forge ahead using new approaches to get things done.

A really good start to #WTOMC14 with a great Opening thanks to the Government of the Republic of Cameroon and H.E. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute. Full of color with a good representation not only of the different regions of Cameroon but of the world. It reminded us that cooperation can deliver more for the peoples of WTO Members than isolation or fragmentation. In this regard, the room lit up with excitement when H.E. Ömer Bolat @omerbolatTR, Minister of Trade of Türkiye, announced that Türkiye would no longer oppose the incorporation of IFD into the WTO rulebook. Beautiful family photo of Ministers and Heads of Delegation.
