North Reading Boys Basketball — 2025–26 Season Wrap-Up The Hornets closed out the 2025–26 campaign with a season defined by grit, growth, and a string of memorable wins that pushed them into the MIAA Division 3 State Tournament. Under head coach Joe Casey, North Reading battled through a deep Cape Ann League slate, delivered big performances in key moments, and showcased a senior group that set the tone on and off the court. Season Snapshot • Signature Wins: North Reading stacked important victories throughout February, including a clutch 48–45 road win over Hamilton‑Wenham and a strong 62–53 performance against Greater Lowell Tech. Both games highlighted the team’s ability to close tight contests and respond under pressure. • Battles to the Wire: Even in narrow losses—like the 57–60 fight against Georgetown—the Hornets showed resilience and late‑game toughness that kept them in every matchup. • Senior Night Statement: The home win over Lynnfield earlier in February was one of the emotional high points of the season, with the seniors leading the way in front of a packed gym. Tournament Run North Reading earned a spot in the 2026 MIAA Division 3 State Tournament, where they faced Auburn in the opening round. The Hornets battled but ultimately fell 46–63, closing the season with pride after a strong February push that secured their postseason berth. Team Identity This group played with: • Balanced scoring and shared responsibility • Defensive toughness, especially in low‑scoring CAL battles • Senior leadership that kept the team steady in tight fourth quarters • A competitive edge that showed up in every game, win or lose A Season to Appreciate From early‑season battles to late‑season momentum, the Hornets delivered a campaign full of effort, improvement, and moments that will stick with this group for a long time. The seniors leave behind a strong foundation, and the returning core now steps forward with valuable experience and a clear sense of what it takes to compete deep into February.
