@JWDrennan Grew up in NZ Rugby pushed on us at every opportunity. Used to watch alot of it now only the odd AB’s match each year. Prefer Football EPL, Champs League, WC. My kids and their mates do also esp new immigrants. Rugby is declining, League and Football on the up in NZ.

@DrewPavlou She missed out the part where most Maori words are just phonetic transliterations of English words. These words are decided by five people in a government department called the 'Maori language commission'.

This is why 8 of the 10 most valuable sports franchises in the world exist in the U.S. even though the fan base for soccer is 5x the size. The proposal is clumsy at best, and if that were the reason it was being killed that'd be enough. But the prevailing attitude here seems to be "soccer is not for sale" - even though UEFA makes over $2b on the Euro cup. The statement from UEFA comes off as if they are almost offended that someone wants to inject more money into the game from concessions and marketing agreements while leaving the governing up to the federations.
