B-HEARD, the Behavioral Health Emergency Assistance Response Division, is part of New York City's commitment to treat mental health crises as public health problems - not public safety issues. This is a rare opportunity to participate in a dynamic public health approach to mental health crisis response in New York City. As a Social Worker, you will be providing frontline crisis response in the community, supporting people experiencing mental health emergencies, substance use challenges, suicidality, trauma, and acute stress. Interested candidates may send their resume, cover letter and social work license to BHEARDjobs@nychhc.org for a preliminary screening call. Learn more about B-HEARD here: on.nyc.gov/40rOPTG.

#MothersDay may have been this past weekend, but our NYC Health + Hospitals leaders celebrate their mothers every day. We asked our system leaders to share some of the advice their mothers gave them that stays with them always. Photo 1: Cristina Contreras, CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln: “My mom has given me a lot of advice over the years, but the one piece of advice which has been a guide to my success was her advice about the importance of being strong and advocating for myself. I know it’s hard to believe now, but as a child growing up, I was very shy and my mom would always tell me that I needed to be strong and stick up for myself. That advice has shaped me into the person I am today – not only am I a strong advocate for myself, but I became a social worker, and ultimately a CEO so that I can advocate for others. I thank my Mom for instilling me with that advice which has helped me to face obstacles, keep going, and develop resilience.” Photo 2: Daveth Forbes-Thomas, CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals/McKinney: “My mother emphasizes that if one does not reap the seed they sow, their children or future generation will. This piece of advice has influenced one of my guiding principles, that of service.” Photo 3: Susan Sales, CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur: “My mom taught me that patience is a virtue, always be kind to others and remember to have fun. As a nurse, she always led with compassion and reminded me to do the same. I also appreciate that she would dress up for Halloween, and I continue this fun tradition with my family at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur and at home.” Photo 4: Alina Moran, CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst: “I am the product of my mother’s lessons: that faith is our foundation, family is our center, and service is our purpose. She did not just show me how to be a woman; she showed me how to lead with grace."
