Congratulations to HTC for winning a transformative contract for our city’s hotel workers. With this contract, tens of thousands of hotel housekeepers, cooks, servers, dishwashers, and staff can afford to continue calling New York City home.

The path to universal child care is now six blocks shorter. Thanks to our expanded 3-K programming, thousands of families will have access to affordable programs closer to home. That means less time spent commuting and more time focused on what matters most: our children, our families, and our communities.

I am devastated to learn of the death of a person in City custody this morning. My heart is with their loved ones and everyone impacted by this unimaginable loss.   The Department of Correction and our oversight partners have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding this death.   Our administration remains firmly committed to the urgent and essential work of creating better conditions in our city’s jail system and closing Rikers Island as quickly as possible.

This ruling is a victory for New York’s immigrant communities and for the basic principle that no one should fear detention for seeking justice or following the law. Yesterday’s decision restores accountability and makes clear that our courts cannot be used as tools of intimidation. New York City will continue standing with immigrant New Yorkers in the face of ICE's cruelty.

In order to ensure that Jewish communities can continue to thrive here, my administration is increasing hate crime prevention funding by 800% — because New York must be a place where everyone can live safely and freely. I’m grateful that LIRR unions and the MTA reached an agreement tonight that recognizes both the critical importance of the LIRR and the workers who keep it running.

Phased LIRR service will resume tomorrow at noon, so New Yorkers should continue to make alternative travel plans and expect travel delays in the morning if they typically commute via the LIRR.
 
City Hall and City agencies will continue to coordinate to monitor traffic conditions, keep commuters safe, and support New Yorkers.
