🫡 Today marks the 10th anniversary of DVS. We remain committed to our mission of ensuring that veterans of all generations, backgrounds, and walks of life have access to the resources they need and are reminded that in New York City, no veteran or their family is ever left behind. Here’s to the next 10 years! 🇺🇸🗽

DVS continues to bring together veterans and their families to support all generations of veterans, including Post-9/11. This includes planning for the September 13th Remembrance Ruck and resource fair, with a focus on ensuring all voices are included in the process. We will continue hosting additional roundtables to expand participation and bring more organizations into this work. While much of this week’s roundtable focused on Post-9/11 veterans, we remain mindful of earlier generations. Their experiences and ongoing needs help guide us as we build stronger support systems for the future. DVS remains committed to collaboration, transparency, and ensuring no voice is left out. Thank you to Councilmember and Veterans Committee Chair Frank Morano for being part of the conversation.

At SUNY Maritime, we joined Senator Fernandez and Ricardo Garcia to commemorate Borinqueneers Day alongside partners and community members. The 65th Infantry Regiment set a standard—one defined by service, sacrifice, and standing their ground when it mattered most. That legacy continues in how we show up for veterans today. On Sunday, Commissioner Mata and Mayor Mandani spent time at the Veterans of America–Greater New York Commonwealth residence, led by CEO Jeff Ginsburg, to join Bronx veterans for an Easter meal and to hear directly from them. The mayor’s second visit reaffirmed his commitment and support to the veteran community that New York City stands with them. The Commonwealth provides permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless Bronx veterans. We thank State Senator Nathalia Fernandez, Assembly Member Karines Reyes, and our nonprofit partners for joining us. We are deeply grateful to our Veterans and remain committed, alongside Mayor Mamdani, to strengthening services for those who served.
