16yr old Sam Ruthe just completed the most amazing Jnr mid-distance double that I've heard of. Solo 3:38.6 1500m followed by a solo 1:46.8 800m at NZ schools champs!

For some background on Sam - his grandparents were a 2:12 marathoner and 2:00 800m runner, and his parents both ran at WXC for NZL - some great generational pedigree !!

@jgault13 Raced them both in 2003 before their first WCs head-to-head at Paris 5000m - in 2024 I feel like an old man, and they're both still going at it!! Both legends!

I just discovered this clip existed. I don't care how the race ended -- it is incredible that these two actually lined up against each other for another Olympics in the year 2024. What a moment.
