NPB has officially altered its postseason format.
If the 1-seed wins the pennant by 10 or more games, they will receive 2 ghost wins instead of 1 in the Climax Series Final Stage.
If a sub-.500 team qualifies, the pennant winner also gets 2 ghost wins.

@INTLBaseball24 I think Premier 12 should be the 20 team tournament for baseball development (the scope of the WBSC, after all). WBC should be the elite tournament, with the best 12 playing in two groups of 6. There is no way to avoid big clashes between baseball powerhouses using that format.

This tournament definitely needs to see some DR/Japan and Venezuela/Japan in pool play. I understand why it is the way it is but Japanese fans have never in WBC history ever seen DR/Venezuela/PR/Mexico in Japan against Samurai Japan. It would be a nice change

Another point that I just saw from a Japanese poster is that it doesn’t help Japan to play every WBC pool game with the same exact conditions. 7 o’clock night game at Tokyo Dome versus opponents they’re used to and much better than on paper. Nothing out of their comfort zone. Not much you can really do about it because the finances and ratings of the tournament obviously warrants it but it’s beneficial for NPB players to get a chance to play outside of Japan in front of a more “hostile” crowd.

I had very low hopes that Samurai Japan 🇯🇵 would repeat as champions, but you obviously feel pretty good about a game where Yoshinobu Yamamoto starts and Shohei Ohtani hits a leadoff homer.
Venezuela 🇻🇪 was simply the better team all-around.

This is officially Samurai Japan’s worst finish ever in the World Baseball Classic. They’ve won 3 times and lost in the semifinals 2 times.
This was a close matchup on paper but Venezuela’s firepower was better.

Pool A is balanced overall and any team can likely win any given game. You’re only as strong as your next day’s starting pitcher. Cuba arguably has the best starting pitcher in the pool in Livan Moinelo and could possibly get two starts out of him.

Yo pienso que el mejor béisbol es el que sale a relucir en torneos de larga duración, incluso si Japón ganara las próximas 3-4 ediciones del WBC.
No es lo mismo un torneo de 6-8 meses que uno de 2 semanas. Y cuando los jugadores japoneses llegan a MLB -salvo contadas excepciones- el nivel decrece bastante.
Sin embargo entiendo perfectamente tu punto. Siento que para ser exitoso en este evento se necesitan muchos más factores que solamente el talento. Y mira que los nipones son talentosos, nadie se los puede quitar, pero tú traes a ese mismo equipo de Japón a jugar en el torneo MLB de este año y las probabilidades de que no clasifiquen son tan amplias como las que tienen ahora mismo de ganar el WBC.

Si Japón vuelve a ganar el WBC, ya no hablaríamos solo de superioridad. Estaríamos ante un dominio que empezaría a incomodar al resto de los países más influyentes de este deporte. Un cuarto título no sería casualidad, sería la confirmación de una hegemonía que obligaría a replantear dónde está hoy el mejor béisbol del planeta.
