Build every component for removal. When the model catches up, the line should disappear. If you can't delete a harness component without the system breaking, the component is load-bearing and the model is weaker than you think.

Most teams treat the harness as permanent tax. They add scaffolding and never take it away. That's technical debt hiding behind the word "infrastructure."

Every line of harness code is a confession. It says: "the model can't do this." If your confessions aren't expiring, your model isn't getting better.

If your harness only has 1-2 of these, it's a demo. 3 is okay. 4 is good. 5 is what Anthropic and OpenAI ship. What's missing in yours?

5. Human-agent alignment. When does the agent ask vs proceed? What gets escalated vs auto-approved? Versioned signals, SLOs, eval gates. Without this layer, you have an intern, not a teammate.
