god it makes me sad when people find stuff out about their faves 😭 it’s hard knowing stuff and keeping quiet but if there’s a conversation about someone’s behaviour I do think those with knowledge sort of have a responsibility to speak up but it feels shit to shatter illusions😭

@frodiscaper @J3alousGuy Exactly this. It’s never black and white, is the thing. Peter was human, which means he wasn’t all good, and he wasn’t all bad. That’s part of what made him so interesting, but also complicated and at times difficult to be around. But there is definitely a lot to take in…

@J3alousGuy It’s okay you weren’t to know!! Most of the fans here on twitter have been around less than a year so there’s no way they can know everything and that’s okay, and for me personally I don’t want to jump in whenever ppl are being nice about him and be like “no he was shitty!”

@J3alousGuy The other thing is that Peter was also an alcoholic, and even though he got sober, many of the issues around that were still present. So I think a combination of addiction, neurodivergence, and just being in the business for so long all contributed to how he treated people…

@frodiscaper @b1ondeath What I always go back to is that they didn’t necessarily like each other all the time, but Nez cried when he found out Peter died. (On camera, no less.) They fought each other and it was unendingly complicated, but that respect and that love was there to the end…

Just an interesting thought for the Monkees fandom, in light of the Jann Wenner news: Maybe when a lot of us talk about how awful someone is and the terrible things they've done, it's not a "conspiracy" or "hate," but us seeing someone for the shitty person they actually are...
