BRICS is not creating a new world order. But it’s not irrelevant either. South Africa’s experience inside the bloc reveals what BRICS can realistically achieve - and what it probably won’t. SAIIA cuts through the noise with a grounded perspective. youtube.com/watch?v=I0sT5N…

#AES Unified Force has learned from G5 Sahel failures. It can operate freely across members’ borders, and a mix of external partners prevents dependency. But success requires cooperation with neighbours AES has alienated. ISS Today by Leylatou Saidou Daoura & Rahinatou Leïla Salia

The Gulf of Guinea is currently the second-most affected region worldwide for #maritime piracy – and Cameroon's coastline is at the centre. While kidnappings are down, criminal flows like extortion and illegal taxation are up – sustaining pirate economies. New ISS report by Raoul Sumo Tayo. issafrica.org/research/books…

𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 As the post–Cold War order fragments and liberal peace frameworks erode, Africa faces a pivotal moment. Global peacemaking is becoming more transactional — but this disruption also opens space for principled, strategic leadership grounded in justice and autonomy. Tap to read our latest blog by A. 𝗔𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗘𝗡𝗦 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 | 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻, 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 🇿🇦 On Feb 9th, our colleague Dr Jakkie Cilliers, spoke at the AfricENS Together Breakfast. He presented on “Africa’s Future as envisioned through four alternative global scenarios.” Drawing on AFI’s forward-looking analysis, Jakkie unpacked how different combinations of governance strength and capital availability could shape Sub-Saharan Africa’s development trajectory toward 2050, from Coordinated Green Acceleration to scenarios of fragmentation and fossil lock-in. The discussion explored what these futures mean for green growth, energy transitions, food systems, urbanisation and Africa’s strategic agency in a shifting global order. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗺? With the youngest population in Africa and one of the fastest growth rates globally, Niger stands at a demographic crossroads. A rapidly expanding workforce offers real potential — but weak labour markets, limited diversification and uneven reforms could turn opportunity into strain. Tap to read our latest blog by Pierre Christian Tsopmo on whether coordinated action in health, education and economic policy can convert demographic pressure into a lasting dividend: futures.issafrica.org/blog/2026/Can-… #AfricaTomorrow #Demographics #Niger #Development #AfricanFutures

𝗡𝗲𝗼-𝗣𝗮𝗻-𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘁𝘆 As the AU launches its Decade of Reparations, restitution is moving beyond symbolism.
