In ruling against Premier Ford’s efforts to keep his business calls secret, the Divisional Court ruled that FOI laws are “vital tools of democratic practice”. Ford didn’t like that and is trying to overturn the decision by changing the laws.

Doug Ford is now exempting himself, his office and his cabinet from Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. FOIs are a basic way journalists hold governments in Canada to account. This crosses the line between a healthy democracy and a decline toward autocracy. This cannot stand.

Give people who work retail a break. They get few enough stat holidays as it is, usually work long hours with relatively low wages. Most don’t get weekends off when most of their family does. Don’t be an ass @fordnation. It’s not about you. Not everyone gets 3 mo breaks with pay.

It’s called Family Day for a reason @fordnation. It’s not “let’s go shopping day”. Retail workers have family too. Instead of just doing the easy stuff all the time, why don’t you just deliver families smaller class sizes, affordable post sec education, family docs, open ERs…
