I’m Ready To Sacrifice Myself For The Safe Return Of Abd¥cted Oyo Pupils And Teachers — Gov. Makinde Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice if it would secure the release of the 46 pupils and teachers abd¥cted in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15. Speaking on Tuesday while addressing protesters led by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan, Makinde assured residents that Oyo State would not witness a tragedy similar to the Chibok schoolgirls’ abd¥ction. The protest was organised over rising insecurity and the continued captivity of the schoolchildren and their teachers. “Let me make it very, very clear, Oyo State is not Chibok and we will not be Chibok,” the governor said. Makinde revealed that security personnel involved in the rescue efforts had made significant sacrifices, including the d+ath of a Nigerian Army lieutenant in recent operations. Expressing his commitment to the victims’ freedom, he stated: “If you ask me, can I sacrifice myself for those children to come out? I will do it. I have lived a good life, I’m almost 60 and it doesn’t matter.” He noted that authorities were handling the rescue mission carefully to avoid further casualties, disclosing that one teacher had already lost their life. “We’ve lost a teacher already. If we can avoid losing more, we will avoid losing more, but if we get to the point that certain people have to be sacrificed, including myself, we will do it,” he added. The governor said he understood the concerns of the protesters and supported citizens’ right to demand accountability from leaders. While accepting responsibility as governor, he explained that state governments do not have direct control over federal security agencies, despite working closely with security chiefs.
