Ever wondered why Real Madrid release their Starting XI earlier than any team in the world? This started in 2021. Journalists had moles in the team’s dressing room and revealed line ups beifre crucial matches. It caused a lot of anger within the club’s hierarchy. It was discovered that Miguel Angel Diaz, a journalist for radio station Cadena COPE, was regularly publishing Ancelotti’s starting XI before Real Madrid wanted them to be made public. During his time as coach, Jose Mourinho started a mission to find the mole in the dressing room. His investigation ended with the Portuguese coach naming Iker Casillas as the player supplying lineups to the media, which the keeper denied. So when Ancelotti replaced Zidane in 2021/22, he decided to take it in their stride to wrong-foot the press. For the first Madrid derby that season, Real published their line-up around two hours before kick-off. And it subsequently became tradition that has now stuck with the club. Now, by announcing their lineup first, Real use it as an opportunity to attract traffic to their social media pages and the Real Madrid TV, which also announces the lineups before it goes on social media.

@Damii7718168983 Athlete development doesn’t stop at discovering talents. In fact it’s just the beginning. You have to cater for their transition to elite levels and sustained elite performance.

@Naplaymaker NCAA only offers scholarship after they gave been discovered by AFN and achieved something substantial at the junior level. Credit goes to AFN more for discovering these talents and NCCA for molding them

Nigeria has always had good athletes on its bloc. I agree that the current crop is full of so much promise than we may have ever seen. However, this assemblage of a humongous talent pool is due to the rapid rise of the NCAA system’s recruiting from Nigeria. Talents are picked from grassroots and athletics academies in Nigeria and awarded scholarships to study/compete in the U.S. collegiate system. A few years down the line, they become superstars. See some of the name that won medals at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow: - Tobi Amusan (bronze, 100mH) - Uni. Of Texas, El Paso (ex) - Samuel Ogazi (gold, 400m) - Uni of Alabama - Kayinsola Ajayi (bronze, 100m) - Auburn - Ezekiel Nathaniel (gold, 400mH) - Baylor - Temitope Adeshina (bronze, H. Jump) - Texas Tech - Ella Onoju. (Silver, 400m) - Louisiana State - Udodi Onwu. (Silver, 200m) - Stanford Uni. - Jessica Oji (silver, shotput) - UPenn. Thank God for the NCAA 🇺🇸 Else, our disorganization would have suffocated all these greatness.

How and When did Nigeria become so good at Track and Field events?

@Espundile That’s the biggest problem. These successes is papering the cracks, making the Federation think they have a system. Far from it. Only a handful of talents make it to the NCAA. All other who don’t make it suffer the rot of the system, and end up in obscurity.

@Naplaymaker They deserves a great deal of credit, but it also highlights a painful reality. Just imagine what Nigeria could achieve if we had the same level of structure, and support for our athletes at home.

I earned $120K a year working for Shell in 2012. Ten years and multiple promotions later, in 2022, that figure has doubled to $240K a year. In 2023, I stumbled on an internal, confidential, document that showed the salaries of my superiors. I saw that even if I were promoted multiple times again, the best I could hope for in another 10 years was another doubling to around $480K a year. This may sound crazy saying it out loud but that wasn’t cutting it for me. I simply didn’t want the next 10 years to be a repeat of the last 10. I wanted geometric progression, not an arithmetic one. On my 40th birthday, in 2023, I was asked to make a wish as a blew the candles on my birthday cake. “Get the hell out of Shell,” I quietly whispered. Months later, I was out. In 2024, my businesses grossed $500K; in 2025, they did $1M - geometric progression. It required me to be delusional about my abilities, to bank on the faithfulness of God and to trust that inner voice that always nag at me that I could be more, I could do more and I could have more.

Your lateral thinking is the problem. You earned $100k last year. This year, you want to do $120k, even though you could wipe the slate clean and do a million. The measurement of your performance against a benchmark that amplifies mediocrity. That is the problem. You cannot create the impossible by looking up to the possible. Break down that frame and construct one that has never existed.

Finidi George. Kanu Nwankwo. Tijanni Babangida. Pius Ikedia. Recently: Calvin Bassey. Chuba Akpom. And now Tolu Arokodare. Bassey and Akpom had very tough time at Ajax. Bassey almost lost his way and severely criticized by fans and legends of the club. Glad he found stability in the EPL. Same for Akpom. It just didn’t work. He did all he could and real:; it was time to go and not force it any longer. I hope for Tolu, that Ajax will be welcoming to him and his talent. When things go well, they’re one of the best clubs in the world, when it goes rough, you’d literally regret going there.

🔴⚪️💥 More on Tolu Arokodare to Ajax exclusive story: Loan with salary fully covered by Ajax, €22m buy option clause not mandatory. Loan fee also included. Wolves to receive bonuses based on Ajax qualification for European competitions. Here we go. 🇳🇱

Not this time. I’m grateful to finally be in Glasgow covering the Commonwealth Games, and I intend to make every moment count. 2 years ago, Chubuike Nwaiwu was playing for Enyimba FC in the Nigeria League. It all started with a move to Austria in 2024 to join Wolfsberger AC. 2025: one season at AC, he moved to Trabszonspor. 2026: one season at Trabsz, he’s on his way to the EPL. After Ahmed Musa, I am not sure a locally-raised lad has had this kind of rapid rise straight from the Nigerian league.
Florian Plettenberg@Plettigoal

🚨🆕 Understand Fulham and Chibuike Nwaiwu have already reached a verbal agreement. Fulham are now in contact with Trabzonspor to negotiate a deal. Nwaiwu is also on Crystal Palace’s shortlist, but their current priority is Chrislain Matsima, with concrete negotiations ongoing with FC Augsburg. CPFC want to close the deal with Matsima soon. @SkySportDE 🇳🇬
