In @edutopia's recent article, @MrsSaid17 references @MTothAuthor's “The Power of Student Teams,” to highlight the experience of creating a classroom environment that encourages students to collaborate in rigorous, standards-based tasks.

"Collaborative learning yields more work out of the student because they’re engaging with the content rather than just receiving it," @MrsSaid17 writes. Here are her tips for your classroom. 👇 edut.to/45bm4Nr

@PDin140orLESS @KeeneeLou @thinkchat2020 @RossCoops31 Of course! Always so mentally invigorating! #pypchat
English

Thank you so much to @KeeneeLou for hosting tonight and @thinkchat2020, @NatDeeRu, and @RossCoops31 for adding so much insight to the conversation. I had a blast being back at #pypchat tonight! See everyone in 2 weeks!
English

@RossCoops31 That support is crucial. It allows them to know that they’re not in a silo with their inquiries #pypchat
English

A2: If we want students to be invested in asking their own questions, they need to be conditioned to believe we'll support them as they investigate these questions. #PYPchat
English

@KeeneeLou A5 #pypchat I know there’s an impact when I see learners who are willing to take risks in their learning. Learners are cognizant of their strengths & areas of growth. True agency is present: voice, choice, ownership of/in their learning. Efficacy.
English

@PDin140orLESS Yes! This! Learning involves trial and error. Failure and recovery. One doesn’t learn to ride a bicycle at the first try. #pypchat
English

A3: Another important piece is that we have to give students a chance to revisit ideas over and over. The one and done curriculum topics don't allow for the testing and adapting of theories. Concepts can open up opportunities for this. #pypchat
English

@thinkchat2020 @KeeneeLou So true. It’s easy to neglect the teaching of these essential skills before application. #pypchat
English

@KeeneeLou A4 #pypchat Building confidence in Ss that they are natural inquirers & that their inquiries are valid & significant. Scaffolding Ss throughout the inquiry process thru Qing, guiding towards resources, giving space for pivoting their inquiries.
English

@KeeneeLou A3 #pypchat When we prioritize this time as an essential component of our learning environments, it happens. Ensure there is space to develop S theories and follow through in different ways that honor S ideas & inquiries.
English

@PDin140orLESS @RightQuestion This practice of refining Qs to be open ended, I imagine is a game changer. #pypchat
English

A2: I love how @RightQuestion suggests using the question formulation technique. It has a critical step in the process that has students turn closed questions into open questions and open questions into closed questions to learn how to create more questions. #pypchat
English

@KeeneeLou A2. Create cultures of Qing by honoring Qs & model asking Qs that can have multiple answers. Allow learners to become confident in thinking in varied ways & appreciate different perspectives. Thinking routines are great scaffolds for developing deep & abstract thinking #pypchat
