@DrMcFillin I wanted to respond to Mr Ruffalos post but resisted because I wasn’t sure I could do it without being so rude I looked petty …. But omg it’s amazing to see how far down the rabbit hole people will go rather than stepping back and looking with fresh eyes

I have a great idea... how about we abandon DSM-6 and this useless exercise of having to create categorical diagnoses for complex human experiences. It was fun while it lasted.. you know diagnosing people. Everyone is better off.

@EricJZeitler @DoctorPerin This mirrors my experience - I actually find the difference between 4 and 5 disproportionately stark compared with 3 to 4 …..

I think it depends heavily on the work being done. I can speak only for myself, but I find 4-5 hrs of direct client work a day to be about my limit before the quality of the work begins to suffer. 3 hours in a row is also about the limit without a break. Just my anecdotal experience.

How many patients do you think a therapist can see in a row before they compromise the quality of their work? How about in a day? A week?

@JonathanShedler The therapy needs to be client specific not therapist specific and therapists need to recognize it is not about them.

Can’t count how many times I’ve said here 1️⃣the benefits of psychotherapy depend on the expertise of the individual therapist not the therapy “brand” 2️⃣Choose a therapist, not a type of therapy 3️⃣Questions about whether a specific therapy approach or intervention is helpful can’t be answered in the abstract. The only meaningful question is: Effective for whom, when, under what circumstances, and with what therapist? But every day, I still get DMs from people asking what I think of this or that therapy “brand” 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you set an authentic and clear aim for yourself, and you address the process fully, the outcome will take care of itself. Steady yourself, aim, release your fingers around the bowstring, and remain steady. Watch what happens.

2 days wonderfully spent with the brilliant Dr R Erskine. Science and methods of relational therapy. Not just the relationship, the careful and deliberate relational presence of a therapist attuned to the clients experience - allowing script to be re written and real healing

@PluralPractice @AngelGabriel533 I really enjoyed it - especially the celebration of the grey areas we (therapists) spend our time navigating- a welcome balm to the reactionary responses the less thoughtful often demand I fall in line with - it’s not black and white it’s grey

Ryan Daigler - Exposing Narcissistic Abuse 🚩🚩
Narcissists parents will make their children feel guilty for asking for basic needs or simple things that would make them happy. The child learns that their needs are a burden or unreasonable, leading to feelings of guilt or shame for asking for anything. Narcissistic parents often create an environment where the child’s happiness is secondary to the parent’s wants and control. The child learns to suppress their desires and prioritize the parent's emotional state, leading to long-term emotional damage, difficulty setting boundaries, and a skewed understanding of healthy relationships. As adults, these children may struggle with self-worth, constantly questioning whether they deserve to have their needs met.

@drockerr @MarkLRuffalo But surely the diagnosis disempowers the individual experience- they didn’t catch bpd from walking down the street - it’s a false hope - depth and understanding matter

@MarkLRuffalo A diagnosis is so useful because it implies hope and identifies a known process or pattern. The pain/shame of the stigma can be hard to bare and much resistance to diagnosis is understandable

@famm321 @SarahFelton9 @mickcooper77 Barring is diff to DBS. whilst only effects employment is effective in cases of disrepute etc, It's about having an independent way of upholding agreed expectations

Should counselling and psychotherapy be regulated? Interesting short video from the BBC presenting a pro-regulation perspective from the standpoint of service users and the general public bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-512…

It’s so easy for us to judge our past selves against our current knowledge, skills and experience. We were doing the best we could with what we knew/had at the time. #365daysofcompassion

@SarahFelton9 @mickcooper77 Personally I think the Harold Shipman argument is poor. Safeguarding in regulated proffesion such as teaching removes many many harmful teachers from the system- preventing repeated harm. Without the regulation there would be a sig increase in incidents of harm.

@mickcooper77 I am against regulation. Harold Shipman anyone? There will always be bad apples. I don’t think the current system works particularly well but I don’t necessarily think regulation is the answer.

@lawyerwritermom @ScapegoatAbuse From my clinical obs. It seems to me they dont always have a strong enough sense of self as they are brought up to serve the narc. Imo more likely verge towards something that presents as c- ptsd
