Pierce had offers from top schools and chose Purdue. Guessing he was paid? They paid to keep guys like Smith and Edey

@NateBenter @kraigbowers34 He just landed a 5*, but he also did that 10 years ago. I wouldn’t chalk that up to superior recruiting. He gets the transfers he can afford. Purdue won’t be top 10 this coming season.

He has what he needs to maintain their top 10 caliber teams

@NateBenter @kraigbowers34 He has less talented basketball players than other schools. He is still successful with the less talent, but if he had the resources of Duke for instance, he would have multiple championships. Purdue’s history, location, and budget limit the player he can get.

@NateBenter @kraigbowers34 It does matter. Painter can develop, there is no doubt about that. He’s a fantastic coach. Maybe the best in college basketball. He can only control what he can control though. He is limited by resources.

@NateBenter @kraigbowers34 Yes, I don’t think they are a top 15 or sweet 16 team next year. They finished 7th in the Big Ten this year and lost by far their top 4 players. Didn’t really replace them with anyone of note. Didn’t go fill the gaping hole they have at the starting 5.

Next years team isn't highly regarded, but assuming a couple guys take a step, its going to be pretty talented. And recruiting is only getting better by the year. He just reloads.

@NateBenter @kraigbowers34 Painter has had a solid few years with his great year coming on the shoulders of a generational talent. He’s also had teams that have been very poor in his tenure. The team next year is the least regarded team in the last decade.

@MaverickTy @kraigbowers34 Can you explain why they are leaving it? But sure, Painter has shown over and over that he can just reload and have talent year in and year out. Not only that, he's shown that he can adjust his coaching and style of play to match his team. And PJ Thompson is a great OC.
