@WiborgQ99 @jakozloski Sure, there are also (mistaken) stereotypes about people with high intelligence having more mental health problems
English

@NathanDNguyen @jakozloski This makes better sense. We know people within similar IQ ranges are more likely to date, so it was confusing to me if they’d want to date people they likely have communication problems with.
English

How attractive is intelligence? Desirability climbs with IQ to the 90th percentile, near 120. Then dips slightly through 135.
Smart is maximally hot. Genius is just past the peak.
Study: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

English

@jakozloski This is an uninformative study.
The key claim rests on an exploratory interaction effect, p = .03, with 13-16 participants per cell, uncorrected for multiple comparisons. And the experiment uses a single female research assistant (rated 64/100 on attractiveness).
English

Men received a nasal spray of oxytocin, the bonding hormone, then an attractive woman approached.
Partnered men backed off, keeping 4-6 inches more distance than partnered men on placebo. Single men: no effect.
It's a fidelity hormone.
jneurosci.org/content/32/46/…
English

@jakozloski Also from their footnote: 16 effect sizes were manually coded as d=0 because the papers listed n.s. results without an effect size.
That is not how any modern researcher would conduct a meta-analysis.
English

@jakozloski I am skeptical this effect would survive publication bias correction. This kind of research smells a lot like other priming research that supposedly unconsciously affects people's attitudes
English

Men were interviewed by an attractive researcher on a scary, swaying bridge or a solid, low one.
Scary bridge: about half called her after.
Safe bridge: one in eight.
They were scared. Their brains filed it as attraction.
Plan the horror movie date.

@langofmind @robsica The quote says “popular” not “consensus”
English

@robsica "Morality is bullshit" is absolutely not a consensus view among philosophers. Moral realism is very popular
English

😸🔪"Philosophy is full of alarming theses, like 'morality is bullshit.' That’s a very popular view among ethicists... But soon as you say there are two sexes and almost every human is either male or female, that becomes verboten." archive.ph/1HHCk

DEI Fraud and Cover-Up: ncofnas.com/p/dei-fraud-an…
It’s an open secret at Cambridge University, but everyone is afraid to speak out. Newspapers backed away after getting hit with legal threats.
Here, I tell the true story of Jason Arday—DEI superstar and the youngest black professor in the history of Cambridge.

Amazing interview with the head of the American Anthropological Association: "So the idea that there are two sexes is just factually incorrect, and to force biological anthropologists to teach that is the equivalent of turning an astronomy department into an astrology department. So I don’t know why we’re debating that. You may not like it. I don’t know, maybe you want to kill babies that aren’t just XX presenting XX or XY presenting XY"

English

@sentientist Biological flags are extremely broad. I’d expect anything to do with evolution to switch to opus

A classic study found that crows will drop rocks into water-filled tubes in order to raise the water level and retrieve floating food
This has been widely interpreted as demonstrating complex causal reasoning
A re-analysis of the data suggests otherwise

@NathanDNguyen @Tiavor By itself, I would say it's suspicious but not conclusive. With the other evidence though, combined with the fact nobody has linked the source paper here or on TikTok, I am convinced.
English

@Tiavor Yes. It looks similar at first. Then, I asked the AI to round the IQ scores to integers and the plot looked different. This implies that the original video has IQ scores that are not integers, which, in turn, implies...?

Here is a surprisingly good short video summary of the essay:
Dan Williams@danwilliamsphil
New essay: I argue that political differences often reside not primarily in different factual beliefs, values, or high-level ideologies, but in the competing systems of interpretation through which we select, ignore, frame, narrate, and explain political reality. conspicuouscognition.com/p/how-tribes-c…
