Update (and the final one) - We have decided to close federal offices in the region for Monday. We will update the official status on the @USOPM website shortly. We hope that everyone stays safe (and warm) over the weekend.

Update - just finished a meeting with the team. If the weather is consistent with what is being forecast, we expect a closure for our federal offices in the area for Monday. We are getting together throughout the weekend and will keep you updated. The official decision - this is not it - will be posted on the @USOPM website. Our goal is to call it as early as we can assuming the system develops as forecast.

Heads up, DC! Severe thunderstorms and heavy wind gusts are expected late afternoon into this evening. Before the rain begins, secure loose items around the exterior of your home and clear gutters and storm drains.

A strong cold front will cross the area tonight, bringing a risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and into the overnight. The primary risk will be damaging wind gusts associated with lines of storms with a marginal/isolated risk for tornadoes or severe hail.
