It is a highly refined, institutionalized, and continuously updated system of discrimination that operates with greater sophistication than conventional racism in many parts of the world. In this sense, India has perfected a more enduring and deeply entrenched form of graded inequality that continues to shape social, economic, and political life long after many other nations have formally dismantled overt racial hierarchies. This structural reality demands not denial, but rigorous constitutional intervention, Ambedkarite social reform, and uncompromising enforcement of laws like the SC/ST (PoA) Act to achieve genuine equality and dignity for all.

I obtained my citizenship certificate in 2002. The District Magistrate (DM) issues a citizenship certificate, which is conclusive proof of citizenship. A passport is accepted as proof of citizenship for holders born before 1987. It should be accepted as proof of citizenship for all holders. How can the Government of India issue a passport to a non-citizen except under Section 20 of the Passports Act, 1967, to a stateless person or for humanitarian reasons? Are ordinary Indian passports also issued under Section 20?

While the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s order by Justice Vishal Mishra rightly seeks to prevent misuse of public funds and ensure the integrity of prosecutions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by directing victims to file an affidavit undertaking not to compromise with the accused or turn hostile, a critical ground reality must also be addressed. In a large number of cases, victims (or their families) agree to compromise not out of choice, but due to the absence of effective victim protection mechanisms. Many face life-threatening risks, including threats, intimidation, or violence if they continue to pursue the case against powerful accused persons. In such situations, merely requiring an affidavit from the victim may not address the root cause. Instead of (or in addition to) the affidavit condition, courts could direct the prosecution and concerned authorities to provide adequate security and protection to the victim and witnesses throughout the trial. This would strengthen the criminal justice process, uphold the true spirit of the SC/ST Act, and reduce forced compromises, while still safeguarding public money from potential misuse. Justice Mishra’s order highlights a genuine concern about the system being gamed. However, pairing it with robust victim and witness protection measures would make the directive more balanced, effective, and victim-centric, rather than placing the entire burden on already vulnerable individuals. The colonial construction and codification of caste reinforced the dominant position of Hindu upper castes, legitimising their supremacy as a natural and normal social order. This entrenched framework has deeply influenced India’s democratic institutions, transforming them into a caste-prejudiced system that routinely protects the perpetrators of atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the name of culture and tradition.

During British colonial rule in India, many missionaries and humanitarians from Britain and the West publicly criticised the Hindu caste system as unjust and oppressive. However, the colonial administration often aligned itself with Brahmin elites to ensure social stability and maintain a semblance of local control within the imperial framework.

People who did this are trying to lecture us about humanity.

Effective environmental protection is impossible without centring Indigenous Peoples and their traditional knowledge systems. Any advocacy for environmental conservation that excludes their active involvement and leadership is not only ineffective but fundamentally insincere.

It is true that without Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, it is difficult to imagine that a brilliant mind like Dr. B. R. Ambedkar would have had the opportunity to emerge as a national leader. Shahu Maharaj was a pioneering social reformer who introduced special reservations for marginalized communities, including Dalits and backward classes, during his rule. He is widely regarded as one of the architects of the reservation system in India. On his birth anniversary, we pay our respectful tribute to this visionary leader and champion of social justice.

#BREAKING: Over 8,600 complaints were received against sitting judges by the Office of the Chief Justice of India in last ten years alone! The Supreme Court of India presented this data to the Union Law Ministry in response to a Parliamentary question by Mr. Matheswaran V.S. It is not known what transpired in each of these complaints, and how, and IF AT ALL they were processed by the CJI’s office. Judicial corruption is a burning issue today and the system stands exposed. Although the MP asked what action was taken in each of these complaints, the Parliamentary answer is mute on that point. The government is also mute on bringing guidelines or mechanism to record, maintain, and deal with such complaints. However, the MORE WORRYING and SHOCKING point is this: Before the Delhi High Court in my case on corruption and misconduct complaints against former Madras High Court Acting Chief Justice T. Raja, the Supreme Court Registry has sworn on the affidavit that it does not maintain data in the format sought for. But HOW did it give year-wise data to the Parliament then? So is the Supreme Court Registry lying on oath before the Delhi High Court? If so, this is UNPRECEDENTED and the strongest of actions ought to be taken against those shielding a certain judge by denying data! Who is shielding? Why are they shielding? And what fear do they have to simply answer a yes or no to my RTI question? Even going to the extent of misleading the Hon’ble High Court. The system stands exposed today! Accountability must follow.
