A great 5 days here with colleagues in NICD in RSA. Fieldwork, laboratory work, snails and parasites, alongside socialising - what could be better? #schistosomiasis

Congratulations to Surg. Lt. Cdr. Cara Swain RN, who *nailed* the public defence of her surgical PhD yesterday! Huge thanks to her supervisors at @karolinskainst (where PhD examination requires candidates to literally nail their thesis to the Library wall). Well done Cara!

It was an absolute privilege and honour to attend the national VJ 80th Commemoration representing the Royal Navy Medical Services and also @LSTMnews . Amazing to meet some of the remaining veterans- still so much to learn from this inspirational generation.

🦠 Recent work from Kain and Colleagues exploring Arboviruses in UK Armed Forces ▶️ 107 suspected infections between 2005 & 2023 - 9 (45.8%) were laboratory-confirmed. Dengue Fever was the most common (n=49) ▶️ There is an urgent need to develop a Defence arboviral diagnostic capability & to increase surveillance of arboviral infection in UKAF especially with rapid spread of arboviruses outside their traditional geographical areas ✍️ Read More: militaryhealth.bmj.com/content/early/…

Very excited to work with Asian ADVANCE-ID network to plan clinical trials of our novel metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) inhibitor, MET-X. Antimicrobials targeting MBL mechanism of Gram negative bacterial resistance to antibiotics is key gap in pipeline. @davidantibiotic @INFEX_TX

Great work by Matt Kain to get this small UK based data set out. Dengue is a significant infectious disease of interest to global populations especially military populations and those affected by conflict. More research is urgently needed!. @LSTMnews militaryhealth.bmj.com/content/early/…

Great work Chris on presenting a family cluster infected with Brucella melitensis from Liverpool. Nice to see other UK Brucellosis cases presented, which had input from the UK Brucella Reference Unit based in Liverpool. @nhsUHLG @lplclinlabs @LSTMnews
