As a trained radiographer you should know that ultrasound has 2 big disadvantages limiting its use 1- it is a highly observer-dependent imaging technique 2- It is a real-time dynamic imaging technique that balances motion and details. So when the doctor who will interpret and make a diagnosis insists on doing it, it isn't gate keeping but protecting patients safety.

I don’t know who you refer to as scientist, but surgical diagnosis are not made with lab tests. Lab tests can only help to prepare a patient for surgery and quite invaluable in the actual diagnostic work up. Most surgical conditions are diagnosed clinically and radiologically
