One thing being in the IMO taught me is that I was not even close to being good enough in mathematics to make it my profession. My '88 IMO teammate @terrence_tao was so many levels ahead of my ability. He apparently has the highest reliably recorded IQ ever. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_T… I thought I was high enough to see the peak, but it was just a false summit a bit below basecamp, and he was on top of Everest. It's much easier to be "smart" in venture capital!
