Exhibit 1: In my recent trip, I had booked a seat on the first row of the flight for extra leg space and for utilizing the time to finish a few tasks that would require switching on the laptop. The staff, on behalf of a fellow passenger who had some leg injury, requested me to move to a seat in the 20th row so that the concerned passenger could sit comfortably along with the caretaker. I argued about the extra charge I paid for the seat, and they confirmed that they would reimburse it. In my mind, I had already written it off, but I was keen to observe how this story unfolded. I wasn't surprised. ✅The meal that I had booked (along with the seat) didn't come. Had to follow up. ✅ The promise to compensate came in the form of a voucher with terms & conditions. However, the voucher never arrived. Despite the follow-up. This is not an isolated event. I had a very similar experience from another listed entity (a popular online travel agency), and we all hear stories of poor claims experience in the insurance indsutry. It is not about money. It is about being short-term in approach and the mindset of काम ख़त्म, पैसा हजम I hope this changes too by 2047!

You have your "press here to restart" button till you die.

In 2021, I knew I would achieve FIRE in a few years. It was well within sight. And that made me think about what I would do after I cross the finish line. The answers included moving closer to my parents, pumping more money into my bootstrapped start-up, spending more time with my family (especially my daughter), increasing focus on health, working on projects that excite me, and walking away from things, people, and places that drain my energy. I realized there was no need to wait a few more years to begin living more fully. While starting now might delay reaching FIRE, it lets me enjoy life sooner. After all, FIRE means doing more of what fulfills you and less of what doesn't. It all came together when I realized my dad has been doing this all his life. Even when money was tight. Because the right objective function of life is “fullness of life” and not money, which serves as a good tool. Ring of FIRE is an attempt to nudge readers to pause and reflect on their lives, reassess their priorities, and encourage them to live a fuller life. The book achieves this with the help of several practical insights and relatable stories, in addition to demystifying the mathematical aspects of FIRE.
