@drjohnm AI doesn't need to be all that smart to destroy the human race. Just look at the intelligence of some World leaders, yet they are easily capable of the same

There’s a lot of talk about AI getting smart enough to destroy the human race. I’ll start worrying when it can not be so terrible at reading a simple ECG Gosh

@DrMarkMills Had a case when in Edinburgh, performed in Newcastle. Put in a BiV ICD with LV lead screwed in to RV free wall to synchronise RV contraction with rest of heart. Otherwise RV just blows out, beating at 30bpm. Had to do pacing check with echo to check RV capture #EPeeps @NeilGrubb

A colleague recently brought up “right ventricular disarticulation” as a potential treatment for refractory right ventricular tachycardia. A new concept to me! In the era of modern electrophysiology, is there still a role for this? #EPeeps #CardioEd

@martinkstiles @DrMarkMills Remember the patient well. He was quite a character ! When RV free wall pacing off, a tiny dissociated RV QRS complex was evident. He did well for years, eventually succumbed to RV failure (and thrombus).

To those who think all problems in NHS are due to lack of money I wonder if you think it’s a good use of their money to pay for my consultant brother in law to fly to a conference in Chile? All expenses paid, including a luxury hotel for 5 days. This happens a lot and I find it baffling. His last conference abroad was in the US! #NHS #DoctorsStrike @drdavidbull @DrHoenderkamp

@nportocarero @RomyCerratti I work with pacemakers / arrhythmias. The pacemaker / drug companies cannot pay for me to attend national / international conferences. Some have funding streams that can be applied for, but if awarded it has to be transferred as an unconditional educational or research grant.

@NeilGrubb @RomyCerratti Thanks for clarification. Who, for example would provide the funding? Are you saying Pfizer etc forbidden to fund for these educational grants? Or that person visiting conference on such a grant forbidden from attending lecture promoting mRNA R&D. "Link" is a broad term

@RomyCerratti Some realism as to what consultant study leave is. Max 10 days, at discretion of employer. Mandatory 50 hours to maintain skills / knowledge. For me, much of it delivering teaching. Went to London once in 2022-3. So no, not 10 days of 'all expenses paid' luxury.

As I understand it’s from a special fund within the NHS. It’s a colossal waste of time and money whichever way one looks at it though. Especially as the NHS is currently in a complete meltdown with 7.6 million waiting list and striking doctors! I don’t blame bro in law for taking up the opportunity. He’s taking my big sis along and they’re doing a 2 week tour of Peru before flying to the conference in Chile. Clearly a sign he’s underpaid 🙄 Not! Couldn’t many of these conferences be done on zoom these days anyway? Especially in times of crisis!

@NeilGrubb @RomyCerratti Of course the NHS is paying, but like most scams the money gets paid through buffers. The NHS pays DrugCompany-X, which then pays the money for “conferences”, all expenses paid. Pure corruption, wrapped up in a pretty bow.

@Levi31670942 @RomyCerratti However the rules for educational grants are strict and specific. It isn't always bad or inappropriate to work with industry - so for example in my line of work I get top class training organised by industry (often by companies whose products we seldom use).

@NeilGrubb @RomyCerratti I’m intrigued, these endowment funds and commercial educational grants, where do they come from? Who supplies them?

@Levi31670942 @RomyCerratti Endowment funds consist of money donated to departments, usually for specific purposes. For example, research, equipment, or staff development. Educational grants come from commercial partners, e.g. medical device, pharma or equipment suppliers.

@andyjbrum69 @RomyCerratti Of course that isn't how it works. That would violate the very clear and tight rules of commercial conduct.

@AndrewRTDavies It is inaccurate of you to persistently refer to 'blanket' 20 mph speed limits. Many people have corrected you now. It makes me wonder what motivates you to persistently say this.
