@NeilTaplin1 @redrumlisa It is levied on the cost of fuel and duty so represents ~17% of pump price. Eg fuel 50p + duty 50p = £1 Add Vat @ 20% = £1.20 Vat = 0.20/1.20 =16.7%

Why are Petrol prices going up? Do massive companies like the Supermarkets buy their stock at 10pm for delivery the next morning? Or do they buy their reserves well in advance and are now profiteering?

@redrumlisa Your price at the pump reflects the price that the supermarkets pay to replace their stock. You may not have noticed but they do not have storage capabilities. So they pass on current wholesale price to consumers. Biggest driver of pump price is government, taking > 50% as tax.
