Having a share of freehold does not resolve all issues. I owned a flat that had a share of freehold, but I was the only person interested in managing the building lawfully. As a result, I had to take action against my neighbours.

@Markust9 @katesineed @Property_Funder This is not a leasehold issue. It is generally well known that the NHBC guarantees are not worth the paper they are written on. Freehold properties have the same issues and the same expenses in pursuing this.

@katesineed @Neil_Ryner @Property_Funder We've got an open NHBC claim on a building completed in 2006. Other defects are looked at in exactly the same sort of apathy. Leaseholders have no power - legal routes are prohibitively expensive and we can't withhold payments without serious consequences.

The 1p loophole that wrecks Reeves’ ISA reforms. The Telegraph says the new rules only penalise you if 100% of your ISA is “cash‑like”. So hold £19,999.99 in money‑market‑style assets and 1p in equities and you’re exempt from the 22% charge. A flagship reform undone by a penny

@katesineed @Markust9 @Property_Funder These are differing issues; you will still be able to employ a firm that does a bad job regardless of there being a lease in place! Service charges can only be for the upkeep of the block, or you can apply to the 1st-tier tribunal to challenge them.

@Neil_Ryner @Markust9 @Property_Funder It's not solely Grenfell and fire safety remediation. Leaseholders of NB blocks are paying extraordinarily high £ and stress personal price for building quality and safety defects, as dev knew no recourse and FHdr knew was a chance to pump SCs and Sect. 20s.

@Markust9 @katesineed @Property_Funder Grenfell is more complex; this should not have fallen to leaseholders. Lawyers are arguing over liability, but you are right, leaseholders do not understand their own legal responsibilities and liabilities despite agreeing to them when they completed the purchase.

@katesineed @Property_Funder @Neil_Ryner Grenfell. Sudden huge expenses to fix sub-standard buildings that leaseholders knew nothing about and instead of it falling on the ones at fault, it goes to the leaseholders. That exposed how easy it is to pass on costs, management agents took note and are now creaming it.

@katesineed @Property_Funder Most of that has nothing to do with leaseholds and it is possibly a great time to buy if a downsizer. Freeholds have largely held their value, and leaseholds have not.

@Property_Funder @Neil_Ryner It's not a sudden issue (my pinned post). As too many things, ppl are only taking notice now that the party's over, with real time effect on FtBs, downsizers & chains. Off-shored rentier FHdrs, unscrupulous MAs & NB Dev buddies ruined it for the good ones. 20+ yrs in the making.

@RobertCHeale So, you are saying, if a charity bought their premises, as it was in the charity's interest to do so, they should sell at a possible loss because a leaseholder no longer wants to adhere to the agreement they made and received legal advice on.

1. This reflects the outdated, expensive and unjust system of Leasehold housing in England and Wales. 2. Local Authorities and the Church are often HOUSING PROVIDERS themselves so use that system. 3. Councils and the Church should consider disinvesting from Companies specialising in residential leasehold.
Neil Ryner@Neil_Ryner

The Church of England owns 11 billion in Freehold and leasehold assets, they also has a vested interest, as do many local authorities. It is presented as a David vs Goliath situation, but it is more complex than that.

@Neil_Ryner In my experience 'charities' usually scrounge money of others to buy anything so it's never really theirs! And charities are a massive tax scam too

Toxic leasehold & the dysfunctional housing market are both a reflection of the state of the ineffectual Labour government. Freeholders are ordering the government to maintain a wealth eroding toxic leasehold system at the expense of everyone else! Uk government must get a grip

@Neil_Ryner Buyers are avoiding buying homes where third-party landlords have a direct line to their bank account and whose greed can make the single biggest purchase of their life unmortgageable and unsellable. Leasehold is a scam.

It’s outrageous that a multibillion-pound industry ruthlessly monetising our homes refuses to make its case publicly, yet now poses as heroic public-interest campaigners in a bid to kill a key Labour manifesto promise to end leasehold. thetimes.com/business/econo…

@moving_charlie Such nonsense, you can buy entire roads at the property auction; there is a reason that entire roads are up for sale.

@DarrenArsenal1 It's not the buying of tickets. What were he, his son, and Jack Whitehall doing pitchside?

So heres the thing with tickets, you may feel it unfair, but like with every high profile sports game in the world, buying tickets often comes down to one persons ability to pay £X for tickets. It may be unfair to you, but thats the way of the world. So if your getting angry re @piersmorgan being at Palace. There were a lot of other people who were paying £2000+ for tickets. These tickets more often or not wouldnt be for the average match going fan anyway. Go try and buy a ticket for the Knicks finals games right now. Exactly the same. Lots of said people are not getting tickets in away ends. So havent taken tickets from you. Stop wasting energy and being angry on stuff when there are bigger issues to be annoyed about. Like how many tickets we have fir Budapest!
