Valve does literally fucking nothing to defend their monopoly, I’d say they have a million things that could be done better And yet, Epic can’t get a tiny bit of market share even after throwing free games and exclusives at the problem — because the Epic Games Store sucks

Genuinely, if Epic thinks the 30% take from Steam is too much for what they offer, they can just compete. But they just can’t get the Epic Games Store to not suck no matter how much they try

This severely diminishes valve’s value add. VoIP service, matchmaking, secure payment processing, a multitude of other turnkey backend services. EVERY indie dev I have ever spoken with or that has spoken up about the “30%” has stated it is well worth alternatives.

@a66ot Almost all issuers have a process where if a customer is in a negative balance (with no overdraft), they will be asked to add money. If the customer remains in a negative balance, their account will be closed and the issuer will attempt to reclaim from the merchant via disputes.

@a66ot Yes, that will go through, but the customer/issuer will have dispute rights (in most cases) because you didn't obtain an authorisation. Holding a pre-authorisation guarantees that you can claim that money at presentment time.

@a66ot I have no idea what Revolut is doing behind the scenes but you can't decline a presentment and the contactless framework means it can't be charged back under normal circumstances so either it has to be reclaimed from the customer via a negative balance or the issuer takes a loss.

i’m just posting all these nano banana images because i think everyone should play with it i worry that even amongst techies in the UK that i know, the gap between people that know what ai models are now capable of and those that don’t is widening every day at the very least, people that use these tools will run circles around you in your job

my killer use case for AR glasses is guided translation for learning languages. chinese menus are mostly gibberish to me. the language is full of analogies/puns. what i really want is a pinyin (pronunciation) overlay for unfamiliar words, and context popup if i look at a phrase.
